-Final Episode

In recent years, wherever I went, any event, any friendship meeting, any party, any kind of community, anyone I met there was either a Software Engineer! or an IT worker.

Considering myself as a social person, I don’t even remember the last time when I met someone who was a non-IT worker:(. Where are Tailors, Lawyers, where are Doctors, Chefs, Machinists, farmers where are the all other professionals, I miss you guys :(

A more weird question, how possible so many IT workers suddenly appear!! I am using the “suddenly” word because as a long-term IT worker, I can say that becoming a Software Developer takes literally a very long time and huge effort. Even 4~ years ago when I sat at any table I was one of the rare people who was a Developer at the table. So, how did that amount of people become developers in that short time?

Episode 1) Corona

During the Corona, internet usage increased exponentially and IT companies suddenly needed huge amounts of Developers which did not exist in the whole tech market.

Tech companies were stuck lack of developers. The size of employees in some outsourced companies started to exceed a couple of 100 thousand. The outsourcing companies understood the lack of developers, and they started gathering a huge amount of developers in the market and selling them to tech companies. This situation has further increased the need to find developers.

Episode 2) The story of the series of mistakes has begun…

The companies started hiring people without considering whether they were quality enough. I remember I got many offers WITHOUT TECH INTERVIEWS at that time. Just a quick few calls to check and in a short time send offers. Most of these were SENIOR positions, even at that time I was considering myself a junior. There were countless job offers in my inbox like all other Devs.

For companies was so costly to find a developer. And they started, instead of hiring a few sufficient tech skills Devs, they hired uncounted developers and they hoped some of the Devs would have enough skills. Because Dev inflation existed. Even most companies hired zero knowledge people and they considered training them. Because for companies to pay a salary was not a big cost if they somehow managed to train whom they hired without control, it would still be profitable for them.

However, Employers were coming close to realizing that the salaries of the uncontrolled hired employees were not the only cost.

At that period who started as a Dev in their career, most that kind of people thought becoming a Software Dev was a SHORT WAY to make money :D :D :D And they were partly right because a lot of people with this mentality entered companies, and found jobs. I am not against entering the tech market with zero knowledge. I am against entering the tech market with this mentality.

(I met many Devs who can’t use GIT in such companies with 1.5–2 years experience, I am serious )

Episode 3) The hype Ads for becoming a developer

— Became developer in 3 months, heyooo

— Zero to hero, heyoooo

— How I Landed a $100K Developer Job in Just 10 Days Experience, heyoo

— — be master of JAVA overnight, heyoooo

— I became Senior Developer only with one-week effort, heyoooo

I am sure most of you saw this kind of thousands of ads. As a matter of course, People started thinking: “OMG dude being a developer is the short way to make money, my friend found a job with 100k only with 10 days of study”.

And they started applying for jobs regardless thinking about developing themself.

-Junior Developer position: Applied

-Senior Dev position: Applied

-Architecture Dev position: Applied

-Principle position: apply, quick apply this position for me with 1 month of experience.

Most of them didn’t even know the meaning of these titles. And, People started by running to jump into the technology market like crazy.

Episode 4) Don’t need to be divine to foresee the consequences

People started to give less value to learning and developing themself. And that mentality started scaring companies because tech companies are still the only way to make money is only possible with productive, talented, and hardworking people. Nowadays any Software job post receives countless applicants, my HR friends say to me most people even don’t know the name of the requirements in the post, just apply and just hope to get hired. And for employers is still costly to find quality developers inside thousands of applicants. Companies stopped posting jobs via popular platforms instead they were pulled underground and started posting via developer platforms (Examples: Github etc..). Young serious talent started scared to be Software Developers in serious way.

-CEOs started say “Ahh no need to be developers anymore”

-With real news, also fake news appears and is published -> “ A company fired XXX employees” even with no firing.

-AI will replace Software Developers news

According to my conclusion, technology companies want to discourage people who are not serious from becoming software developers. That is one of the reasons why this kind of news appears a lot.

But but but..

if you are new in this career path and you have a doubt be a Software Developer. Don’t be scared still talented developers can find jobs easily. I got many offers in 1.5 months even when the tech market was at its worst period. Not only me but also my many friends who consider seriously being Dev can find it easily. Companies still looking forward to finding talented Devs.

But please if you want to be a Software Developer only be careful if think about Sofware Developer as a short way to make money. Because it is not.

If you want to make money in a short way I recommend you gamble.

Because being a software dev is a long disciple, seeking to learn constantly, work hard, and very very Entellektuel job area. With that mentality, if you want to join us then you’re welcome :)
